Cloudy headlights in your vehicle can be dangerous as they reduce the clarity and because they're not that transparent, it can lead to some serious accident. The headlights get cloudy because the plastic cover of the headlights gets dull by the extreme sunlight, heavy rain, dust, pollution or fog.
Repairing the cloudy headlights is not a complicated process as you just need to properly clean the plastic cover with the headlight cleaning solutions available in the market.
What you have to do is to get a headlight cleaner kit that is very common in the market to purchase. You can even easily get it from any vehicle repair or auto part shop. And you don’t need to have any professional training to use that kit while cleaning your headlights. There are even several different methods and tips to clean the headlights; you can go for the one that you think your headlights need to be treated with. It's a very simple and handy process that will readily reward with results.
Steps to Cleaning Headlights
You just have to follow these easy steps and the visibility of your car's headlights will be back in no time.
First of all wash the cover of the headlights with clean warm water. Take a piece of cloth and a sponge. Wipe the outside area with sponge using clean water. Then take some soap and stroke it on the sponge or pour some few drops of liquid dish-wash on the sponge and softly rub that sponge on the headlight cover. This method will remove all the dirt and dust from the surface of the headlights. After washing them, dry the surface using a piece of dry soft cloth. Then get started with the polishing step, apply a small amount of aluminum polish with a dry piece of cloth and rub the cloth in a circular movement. Then wipe the surface with a clean towel after it gets dry. You should repeat the process at least three times to get a perfect clarity.
If you have a headlight cleaner kit, you must have a polishing compound, masking tape, sandpaper and wax in it. To wash the inner side of the headlights you need to open the hood but before doing that prepare a small tub of warm lathered water.
After opening the hood, place the masking tape on the sensitive areas of the headlight lenses and surroundings. It will save them from any scratch while using the sandpaper. Dip the headlights in the soapy water and rub the lens with sandpaper. Keep rubbing the sandpaper on the dipped headlights for at least ten minutes. Then wash them with clean water and wipe off the lens and repeat the process till it gets visibly clean.
Most of the people don’t have any idea about cleaning the headlights of their vehicle and they just ended up purchasing for a new pack of headlights discarding the cloudy one. You don’t have to throw your cloudy headlights away; they are not that inexpensive that you waste your bucks every time you find them cloudy. Just follow the above mentioned instructions and save your money.
