Buying a stock is not very difficult but you need to have a sound knowledge to invest your money at proper place. If you are amongst those people who have always been interested in purchasing stocks but do not know the procedure and where to participate then following are some basic points which should be considered before purchasing stocks.

Following are some basic points which can help you make a lot of money by investing your money in stock market

  1. It is very important to know your jargon. You will keep hearing some particular terms when you are buying stocks which are share, stock, equity, shareholder and many such terms. Share and stock, both have a same meaning and they refer to the claim of the company or ownership from whom you are apparently buying your stocks at a particular value. You will be referred to as shareholder when you are investing in stock market. The stock claim documented in represented as share certificate. This document consists of the information about the value of your stock and your shares in the company. Once you have an ownership of the stock in some company, it does not mean that you become entitled to interfere in company’s decisions or working. As being a shareholder, you have a choice to elect company’s board of director’s for which you have to cast a vote and you will be given annual profits of the company according to the working and performance of the company.
  2. There are majorly two ways which can help in securing finance for the company and these two ways are equity financing and debt financing. In debt financing the company receives funds from banks and other financial organizations and institutions or any such source. In equity financing the company divest its some of holdings and issues them to entities and general public. The first issue of a company to general public or entity is called IPO or Initial Public Offering.
  3. There are many methods available shares in the open market. Buying stock is very easy. You can sign up with DIP’s, DRIP’s and even a brokerage firm.
  4. Buying through brokerage is the most common method of purchasing stocks in open market. There are mainly two types of brokerage which are discount brokerage and service brokerage. Discount brokerage is a recent invention. It only carries sell and buy orders in stock. Discount brokerage can be found online as well as in real time. It is a very easy method of buying stocks and is becoming very popular in stock market.
  5. DIPS and DRIPS is another method to purchase stocks. DIP means direct investment plan and DRIPS mean direct re-investment plan. The stock buyers can buy shares directly from the company. It also allows you to buy stocks from companies at marginally cheaper rates and it is ideal for people who have a smaller amount of money to purchase stocks.
