Ingredients:
- 1 lemon 1/2 cup parsley,
- chopped 1 rib of celery
- 2 big handfuls of Spinach
- 1 pince of peeled ginger
- 1 medium cucumber
- 2 apples preferred amount of ice cubes (which is of course, optional)
This serves 1-2 people.
Variation of Ingredients
- 2 apples
- Juice of 1/2 lemon
- 2 cups spinach
- 2 cups cucumber
- 1 head of celery
- 1 bunch parsley
- 1/2 inch or teaspoon ginger root
- Juice of 1 lime
Servings: 3 - 4
This is another variation of the green drink, I suggest trying out both and messing around with the amounts of the ingredients, according to your taste.
In a juicer, put all the ingredients except the ice cubes in a juicer until done. Serve in your favorite martini glass, or whatever you want! Add the optional ice cubes at this point now that it's finished.
Ofcourse, you can adjust these ingredients to your own taste. Maybe you really like the cucumber taste. Excellent! Add a few more cucumbers instead.
When you start making green juice, I recommend a few more apples than usual until you get used to the taste. There is no absolute requirement to start out with something that tastes like mud. Start with something with a fruit/sweet taste. After that, if you want you can add a few more vegetables and less of those fruit. That's the reason why green smoothies are popular - they are most of the time 60% or more of fruit, and 40% or less of vegetables.
The dark green color is a great indication that you have more than enough greens in the juice. As long as it's green, you will know that you're getting the excellent alkaline benefits of greens.

The recipe I saw for the Green Drink on oprah included lemon & lime...can't find this recipe...can u help?
My sister and I used to make these drinks under the instruction of our wholistic therapist in NZ in 1981. However, many people do not realise that cold drinks actually aren't good for digestion, as they cause the muscles to shrink/tighten, reducing digestive effectiveness. I made this today and was skeptical, but it wasn't bad at all. I think I used too much celery. I also added a tiny bit of apple juice instead of a second apple, because my apples were HUGE, and it seemed like I needed more liquid to blend it. I used a blender, and it took a little while to get it to blend, but eventually it did. I think it'd be easier to do small amounts in teh blender first and then keep adding. I kind of threw it all in there the first time, and that didn't work so well. I also had to drink mine out of a straw to keep the "pulp" out of my teeth. Next time I'm going to add 2 T of ground golden flaxseed for extra fiber and Omega 3s.

The drink tastes really good with more apples. It gave me so much energy I couldn't sleep till 4 in the morning.

This is a good recipe but often used among Raw Foodists. Victoria Boutenko is known for her green smoothies and the effects it had on her family who reversed chronic disease and illness.
As an avid raw foodist, I have sought to incorporate those as you mention as well as juicing, and the simplified raw fruits and veggies. Adding variations of greens help becoming bored with green drinks and add variety to your taste buds as well. The health benefits are amazing!
Yes! You should add olive leaves to the mix. You can use olive leaf capsules to help boost your immunity and help increase metabolism.

Using splenda defeats the purpose. Why would you add chemically altered sugar?!?!?!?
I used cilantro instead of parsley (much tastier) and an orange instead of celery (was out of)...for spicier, I will add a dash of tobasco next time. I loved it!!!

Just tried this. Um, it's alright. Kinda thick and a little bitter. I added more lime juice and that helped. For those asking about a blender, I used one and just added stuff gradually. I peeled the apple and cucumber. I also added water because it was very thick.
I think the drink is great, but you have to do one item at a time and you have to cut up the apples, celery, cucumber,ginger etc and keep adding water in order to blend them, other wise you will spend the whole day and night just trying to blend them. But hey, it's a good source of fiber especially if you're someone with big bowel problems . It's also very feeling, so don't you make a mistake of taking it at night, it's better in the morning.
Use a jucier. The blender make a big green mess and not very appealing to try and drink. I got a cheap one at Walmart $29.00, and it works great. If you don't have or want a jucier use a blender, add spring water and run it thourgh a sieve to reduce the amount of goop. It taste great after I got rid of the goop and drank just the juice. If you want/need all that fiber, keep it in. I saw the drink Oz made on Oprah and it looked like it was put through a jucier, not a blender.

I have been drinking the green juice for years, this is the kind of drink not uncommon in my counry anyway. (Sweden) you do not need to add any other supplyment to your normal diet, and it keeps you slim and full of energy. I am 60 years old and still run 5 miles every day. What I do not eat, are sugar items of any sort, no processed foods. My fast food is: an apple and a small bowl of whole grain cereal is better for you with a glass of fat free milk than to stop and get any fast food.Your body needs water, and fresh fruit and vegtables, beans , nuts and cod liver or olive oil, whole grain in small amounts, potatoes are okay, provided you don't add cheese, cream sauce, sour cream or butter. Why is this so difficult for you Americans? Think....first eat later!!! A banana and a small amount of freshly pressed peanut butter, gives you protein, potassium and you can drink water with lemon juice added, you do not need sugar, especially not any of the sugar substitutes. They only confuse your pancreas and lead to your body craving more sugar, you can learn to do without. Try it, I know if I can do it, you can do it!!

I guess what I am trying to ask is - Do you vary what you put in your green drink from day to day...or do you have a certain drink that you drink each day? Also, if you don't mind telling me, what are the main things that you put in your green drink each day? Do you make your green drink in a blender or in a juicer? And what are the main nuts or seeds and beans that you consume?

You people are missing the point. I can't believe someone would subtitute and orange for celery, etc. Why even bother to make the drink.
I use a juicer and have been drinking it every morning for a month. I feel very good. I juice enough for 3 days and pour a glass every morning when I get up so that it comes to room temp. I also workout for an hour afterwards at the gym. Its not nasty and the taste grows on you. Drink a glass of water afterwards. I also added collard greens to my drink and a shot of cod liver oil.
I simply clean my veggies and put in the juicer. It should be a deep dark green, not muddy. Do not substitute or you lose the effect and the purpose of the drink.
When I juice I use green tea or chamomile tea to to stretch the juice. You will dilute the taste so I steep stevia leaves with the tea and mix it with the juice. Very good!

I just went out and bought a juicer and added a mango to the recipe - its actually great! I thought it would be terrible but its a very fresh taste! Thanks!
This recipe is ok, but I think it would be much better juiced than blended. It definitely needs added water when blended and the consistency is thick anyway. I added mint instead of parsley and omitted the ginger (since I didn't have any). The mint was a very nice addition.
I made this drink and thinned it out with carrot juice. I have a sensative pallet so this was great. I did not use the lime juice though. Didn't see the point of the lemon and the lime. I drink it every morning, no ice room temp.

I have a couple of friends that have been drinking the juice every day for about a month and they have lowered their cholestral. Has anyone else had this benefit?
If you use a JUICER it's not "goopy," it's delicious! I don't think one cup of parsley and I head of celery is correct. I use a 1/2 cup of parsley and 1 STALK of celery. The rest of the ingredients are accurate.
The "ie" will mean something one day...I will be on Dr Oz one day. I can't wait to try this green one. I've been doing every morning as follows: 1\2c fat & sugar free yogurt,1\2c soy milk, 1\4c walnuts or almonds,1\2c sugarfree OJ,1/2c oatmeal,banana,apple,& grapes or blueberries. It's easy to open fridge and add until you find good taste.

What do you know about Graviola (Soursop) capsules being used to treat cancer. My husband had multiple myeloma and I would like to try the new remedy which I am hearing a lot about.
Haven't tried this yet but will. Has anyone thought of using AGAVE for sweetner? Works as well as Stevia.

If you use a juicer, you defeat the purpose of getting all the fiber. Use a Vitamix. Works great!
iam dr oz fan. i just purchased a vita mixer and love it.
Too bad the original recipe as posted recommends a juicer when in fact, Dr. Oz recommends a blender. I have been juicing for over a year now. My bone density has gone way up...I was always in the green, now I am greener, I attribute that to juicing daily.
I have read the above posts and some are informed and others are not.
one post said she makes a big pitcher of juice and drinks it over the course of 3 days. You are wasting your time. When you juice, you need to drink it immediately, juice will oxidizes if air starts to hit it.
Always juice without adding ice, room tempeture is the best. Always add a table spoon of omega oils (I use udo's omega's it helps to digest the powerful greens, I also add 1 table spoon sanchi inchi oils 33% protein) to your cup, not in the juicer, the oil is waiting for the juice to come out of the juicer. You can also add 1 table spoon of ionic calcium, and 2 table spoons raw organic aloe Vera juice when the juicing is done stir and enjoy!
I teach juicing to classes and individuals, juicing is easy and so very healthy for you. It alkaline's (ph) the body, dis~eases don't like the an alkaline body. Sugars make the body acidic, fast foods, soda's etc; thrive in your body when it is out of balance.
Green green greens, all of them, small apple, grapes, to take the bitterness away, just a touch.
Carrots, beets are sugar...avoid them

Use masticating juicers like Omega 8005 for fresh juices, don't add ice and don't try to preserve your juice in a fridge. Just juice enough and drink them immediately; storing them may take away the live nutrients that you're after.
Blenders don't do as well as juicers, their job is to blend so they're best at shakes or smoothies but not juicing.
Does this thing help you lose weight fast?
I agree with dolby... however i add a beet a day to my juice for the many benefits. My sugar intake is minimal however. Also add 2 or 3 cloves of garlic each day for benefits and a kick.
While using the Quisnart (sp?) to slice various colored bell peppers for drying my twin & I accumulated a lot of the brownish green juice. She said "Yuk!" but I drank about 6oz of it and saved the rest. I drank 6oz each day and boy was I glad to be alive. Great stuff. Now I incorporate green bell peppers into my regular juicing. I love vegetable juices to the taste isn't a put off for me. Love it...wish you all well.

Please help I sleep with a cpap with a old king size bed my husband sleeps in another room he has restless legs and arms and body nothing has helped. I have migraine headache that I have had when I had pms, then after children and hystric(sorry)about 15 years ago and migraine and now every week I some times go for infusions?Help I have 3 children the youngest will be 18 in March, Shes a senior and looking for a college. Most of her life i've ben in so much pain,and in bed or on pain medicine. I also need to have both knees replaced and I have 1/2 but I keep falling and they keep every 6 month shots of synvivs in both legs. They tell me I not old enoough but i'm 50 1/2. please help with my migraine first the obgyn said have kids I had kids that did not help. Then hysteric that didn't help. I can't live like this. Love the comments but I haven't seen a answer to the question on If it helps you lose weight. Mine is also thick but each morning I take a cup out of the pitcher and put it in the blender and add a little water and it works out great
It was soooo thick I was having to make myself 'drink' it, I used a blender not a juicer and the parsely wasn't pureed completely which was the hardest thing. Then I decided to put my glassful back in the blender with a few ice cubes and after that I love it. The extra blending also took care of the parsley. It _feels_ healthy! I read the warning about ice, if you share that concern about it slowing down your digestion then you could probably add water or unsweetened apple juice... I considered both before deciding on the ice. [I used the version with the lime juice.]

I just tried to whip up a green drink and failed. I need a knife to cut thru the green goo. So I added some water and it finally turned ok enough for me to get it down. Lots of chewing going on!! Any suggestions? I guess with practice it will become taister and easier. I find myself trying too hard to go by an exact receipe. I think I need to get creative.
I made it and added frozen peaches and a little water used a off brand rocket blender and it was very smooth. I was suprised wasn't sure how well it was going to blend. I liked it but I dont think I will be able to get anyone else to even try it again.
The best way to "juice" is to use a juicer machine that is designed to remove the juice from fruits and vegetables. I can't imagine putting all this stuff into a blender - yuck. A juicer will remove the pulp from your fruits and vegetables and give you the juice, live enzymes and all the good stuff you want out of it.
You can add Stevia (Natural Sugar) to it to make it sweeter if you want but it's not necessary - if you make it according to the directions, it's a tasty drink. There are books out there as well that you can purchase, or even find online with tasty juice recipes that have a variety of different vegetables so you don't get bored with it.
The benefits of drinking fresh juice everyday are incredible for your body - think about it this way - you are a living being so putting living things into your body makes sense.

I had the same problem with it being too thick and globby..
You can add a little water, and I add a little fresh/organic veggie-fruit juice mix..just a splash,
and I also added a few pieces of cantaloupe.
I don't have one of the high priced blenders..so I just let it blend for a few minutes until it gets to the consistency I want.
I had to try a few different things to finally get it an enjoyable consistency.
I just made up a batch of the juice and it tasted way better than I thought it would. I saved the pulp and put it in my vegetable soup pot. The more fiber the better!
I just joined Dr oz weight loss challenge, I'm geared up and keen. Now I need to stay with it.
I have been curious about juicers for several years, and just bought a Vitamix. My first experiment was carrott juice (carrots, water, lemon juice). It was very good. Next I put together 1/2c water, 1/2c cucumber, 1c spinach and 1c frozen strawberries (Vitamix recipe). Very ugly deep green brown color, not at all thick, and refreshing flavor. I've made it twice and will make it again. I have no idea what the health benefits will be, but it is a pleasant way for a non-cook to take in raw veggies.
The drink help may help with the diarrhea, but sounds yukky enough to give you the dry heaves.
Dr. Oz, I live in Australia and I watch your programme with interest however some of the things i believe in i have poliomyelitis, and diabetes 2 i am on Metformin or Metex XR i take one tablet i also have a fluid problem in my ankles and my feet however they can not drain my feet because of how i walk and i have very weird feet, i also have arthritis and now i have a blocked artery coming from my right foot at the moment it is okay ido not want to end up in a wheel chair, i am 62 years old i will be 63 years old in April 2011 i like your programme i am wondering do you think your Cranberry juice in the morning would help me. Organic 100% Cherry Tart Juice and takeing Coumadin will the Juice interact with the medicine?
I have and allergy to gluten, Have taken antibiotics for 2 weeks for H. pylori, and have to take 4 more weeks of antibiotics for Candida albicans. I am not suppossed to have sugar, dairy, and of course nothing with yeast or gluten. I have lost 15 pounds within 6 weeks. The Dr. wants me to go on a 10 day cleanse. The first 2 days consists of juiced green vegetables. Will this green drink work with this cleanse.
I really love trying new recipes. I tried Dr. Oz's green drink. It wasn't bad! On today's Dr. Oz Show he shared his "red drink recipe". Basically it's just beets, carrots, and apples. I'm not a fan of beets but I'm going to try it anyway :)

Ingredients
1 cup fresh-pressed apple juice
1 fresh ripe banana
1 1/2 cups frozen blueberries
1/2 cup frozen raspberries
1/4 cup raw walnuts , preferably soaked and drained
Directions
Combine the apple juice and banana in a blender. Add the blueberries, raspberries, and walnuts. Blend until smooth.
Dr. Oz also said that skim milk is not good for you because in order for them to take out all the fat in the milk they have to put in sugar. He says that 2% is the best choice and that whole milk is better for you than skim.

We drink the green juice with the addition of roughly 2 TBSP of ground flax seed and a roughly 2 TSP of ground cinnamon. I add 1/2 a pear to mine and we both add of orange juice to thin it to drink. Blend in a Vita Mix and drink 28 oz daily. Best thing ever. Have been drinking it for a year now. Used a bullet on vacation so could have it while we traveled. We carried a knife, cutting board, and collapsible colander on the trip and bought fresh veggies and fruit along the way.

I use my Ninja blender & add water & greek yogurt to make the green drink drinkable--then a little raw honey or some red grapes for sweetness to take the tart out of the greens.
You can substitute kale for the spinach. I have a pretty good juicer and it extracts way more green juice from the kale than spinach.
I would like to know the name of white tea for weight loss that was disgused on the show within three weeks ago.

My daughter has eczema on the palm of her hands, its so bad that when she plays hockey it hurts because cracks appear on her palms. Is there something she can use to protect her hands when she plays hockey. She is currently using Aloe gel and a cream the dermatologist has prepared for her condition, its of little help.
